Abba Lot went to Abba Joseph and said to him, “Abba, as far as I can I say my little office, I fast a little, I pray and meditate, I live in peace as far as I can, I purify my thoughts.
I too recently left ministry after 15 years. I too dealt with infertility until adoption brought us 3 beautiful children. Blessings be yours on your new path.
I loved reading your reflections on leaving the church. May you continue to enjoy the quiet and real moments of life. Much love to you on your journey with Lucas. I hope you are able to keep swimming. That activity brings me much peace( no one can interrupt your thoughts) and joy. ❤️🙏
Oh, Lindsey! May God bless this time of clearing out, calming down, paying attention to yourself and the world around you in new ways. Prairie potholes indeed. Voas Nature Area in Dallas County is a good place to see them and the plant and animal life they contain. But there is wonder and astonishment all around in every season. I've found it daily on the walks I started taking after back surgery: in the complexity of tiny flowers, the opossum I greet along a Water Works trail, the little boy who asks if I've noticed the one-footed goose at Chichaqua Bottoms, and on and on.
Hi Lindsey: I wrote you a nice message and I guess I forgot to sign in first so it vaporized…..Anyway, welcome to Substack. I enjoyed your first post and look forward to more. I hope you read mine too. We are traveling in opposite but complementary directions: I have returned to being on a staff…for the first time in my ministry….of a large, 2 sanctuary parish!
I look forward to your journey into the other direction. The Church has very little work done on the ministry of the emeritus, and those once in Call but still in Call, if you know what I mean.
I look forward to walking beside you when I can and always to provide a caring shoulder and smile!
Thanks for writing! Mom shared one of your newsletters and it helped inspire me to get started here. I'll be sure to subscribe! And yes, I know what you mean and like how you describe "Once in Call but still in Call." I don't imagine I'll ever be out of Call, just in a moment of new wine and the need for new wineskins, if you know what I mean. We'll see what shape it all takes. Blessings on your new ministry!

Thank you for sharing, Diane. Blessings to you on your new path as well.

Online Bearington, I'm not sure who you are, but I like your style.
Just know we’re on your side!
Glad to hear it!

Thank you, Holly! Swimming brings me so much peace and joy. There's so much grace in the way the water holds us. I hope to see you at the pool!

Thank you, Robin! I'm so grateful for the ways you share what astonishes you and the glory you find around every corner.
Love the “prairie pothole” description of where we are lol!! I’m out here with you my friend. Glory in all that is.
Glory indeed, Jared!
